One of my favourite football stories concerns the 1997 Cup Final. And it’s not really about one of the players. Di Matteo was in the Chelsea team. He has a sister, Concetta, who is blind. This does not stop her going to matches, however. Someone accompanies her and describes the game to her. I would love to hear a recording of that commentary when at the kick-off Concetta’s brother latched on to a pass and scored a screamer high up in the net after only 54 seconds.
